Payton James studied fine art at O'More College of Design and launched her entrepreneurial life in 2018 with a handbag collection in Nashville. Then the pandemic happened, and she found herself drawn to the home. Payton James Home was born around a material she couldn't stop thinking about: raffia palm, handwoven by skilled women artisans in Morocco into placemats, trays, and tabletop pieces that are beautiful, sustainable, and completely one of a kind.
Payton James grew up with a fine art education and a designer's instinct for material. After graduating from O'More College of Design, she launched her first business in 2018 in Nashville with a handbag collection -- building a women-owned brand from scratch, learning every part of the process as she went. When the world went home in 2020, so did her focus. She found herself obsessed with the table, with texture, with the objects that make a house feel like somewhere worth being.
Raffia palm became the answer. Lightweight, sustainable, and warm in the hand, raffia is one of those materials that rewards the skill of the person working with it -- and the women artisans Payton partners with in Morocco have that skill in abundance. Every placemat, tray, and tabletop piece in the Payton James Home collection is handwoven by hand, producing pieces where no two are exactly alike and the variation is the point. The brand is women-owned, sustainability-driven, and built on the belief that beautiful things should also be made responsibly.
