Siblings Jeremy Canade and Sophie Bakalar founded Fable in New York in 2018 after searching for dog gear that didn't make them want to hide it in a closet. The result is a line of crates, leashes, bowls, and toys designed from the ground up to live beautifully in a real home -- objects that work for your dog and belong in your space, with no compromise between the two.
Jeremy Canade and Sophie Bakalar grew up with animals and grew up with opinions about design -- and eventually the gap between the two became impossible to ignore. Pet gear in 2018 was either purely functional and ugly, or aesthetically nod-worthy but built to last six months. Nobody was designing from scratch for the person who had spent real thought on their home and also happened to have a dog.
Fable was their answer. Founded in New York in 2018, the brand started with a signature crate sketched on a napkin -- bentwood construction, curved edges, a gate that could be stored discreetly inside -- that promptly developed a 5,000-person waitlist before it had even shipped. The New York Times Wirecutter named it one of the best dog crates of 2026. It has since been featured in Architectural Digest. From there the line expanded: The Game, an enrichment toy designed so thoughtfully it actually holds a dog's attention; the Magic Link, a hands-free leash system; beds, bowls, and collars all built to the same standard. LGBTQ+ owned, NBC Select Award-winning, and backed by Female Founders Fund. On a registry, Fable is the category for the couple who has a dog and a home they care about -- and refuses to choose between them.
